Free Radical Design is a video game developer, based in Nottingham, England. Stephen Ellis and David Doak left Rare in late 1998, due to creative restrictions that they disliked, to found Free Radical Design. They were joined by Karl Hilton, Graeme Norgate and Lee Ray (all former Rare employees) The company was up and running by April, 1999. Their first game to be released was originally going to be Second Sight, but it turned out to be TimeSplitters, which was released as a launch title for the PlayStation 2 in 2000. Free Radical attracted much attention when it started up because it was founded by many ex-Rare employees who had worked on the critically acclaimed FPS GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64. Currently, the company is developing the game Haze and has confirmed that a fourth TimeSplitters game is in the works, stating: "TimeSplitters 4? Yes. When? Who knows?". Some fans speculate that Haze is just a code name for TimeSplitters 4.
