Background
The H&K G36C is a variant of the parent HK G36 rifle produced by the German small arms manufacturer Heckler and Koch, using a shorter barrel and folding stock in order to reduce the length and weight. The designation 'C' in the name stands for "compact" in reference to its lighter weight and shorter frame (it originally stood for "Commando", but it turned out the name was copyrighted by Colt for a shortened variant of the AR-15). It uses the receiver and magazines as the G36, and therefore can mount the same optics.
Design
Relative to the G36 base design, the G36C is smaller and easier to carry, making it a favorite of European law enforcement in urban combat. When the gun is folded, it is 500 mm (about 19.69 in), and when unfolded is 720 mm (28.27 in). Its barrel is 228 mm (9 in) long and its stock is 220 mm (8.66 in.) long. The gun also consists of a modified handgrip.Popular Culture
