G3 (tour)

Encyclopedia : G : G3 : G3T : G3 (tour)

G3 is an almost annual live music show and guitar tour featuring three select guitarists of the generation; hence its name. It was created by guitarists Joe Satriani and Steve Vai in 1996. From that date to now, G3 had the most guitar virtuosos on its tour, including Yngwie Malmsteen, John Petrucci, Robert Fripp, Eric Johnson, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Uli Jon Roth, Michael Schenker, Adrian Legg and many other special virtuoso guests, including Steve Lukather, Steve Morse and many more guitar legends. Mike Portnoy, the multi-award winning drummer, was a special guest too.

1996 - Live In Concert

The most influential instrumental rock guitarists of the past decade -- Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson and Steve Vai -- joined forces as "G3" for a U.S. tour in October of 1996. It was an unprecendented event, as never before had these three premiere guitarists appeared and toured together.
