GForge

GForge is a Free Software fork of the web-based project-management and collaboration software originally created for SourceForge. After the dot bomb turmoil, and failing to achieve any profitablity, VA Linux (now VA Software) the company owning the Sourceforge Web site, decided to close the source code. Some years later, one of the developers Tim Perdue decided to release GForge based on the last GPLed version.

History and the split
SourceForge software was originally open source. However, VA Software closed the source with the last open release being version 2.5. GForge is a rewrite of the last CVS version of the SourceForge software created by one of the SourceForge programmers; it is released under the GNU GPL.See also
