Gaalkacyo (also
Galcaio) is the capital of the
Mudug region of
Somalia, and is divided into two zones. The southern portion forms the administrative seat of Mudug, while the northern portion is part of the self-proclaimed
Puntland state. The city has an estimated population of 190,000. Gaalkacyo is located in central
Somalia, and remains one of the most developed cities in the region. The city has built schools, and a major airport is in the developmental stage. The Majority of prominent clans in Gaalkacyo are
Leelkase,
Majeerteen and Sacad
Habar Gedir. Gaalkacyo is home to
Abdullahi Yusuf, former president of Puntland and,
as of 2005, current president of Somalia.
The city's former name in the Italian language is Rocco Littorio.

- Baraxleey
- Wadajir
- Israac
- New Garsoor
