Gary Suter

Gary Suter was born in Madison, Wisconsin on June 24 1964. He played his Junior hockey for the Dubuque Fighting Saints and then moved on to the University of Wisconsin. Gary was drafted by the Calgary Flames in round 9 (#180 overall) in the 1984 NHL Draft, and had a long and successful career in the NHL, including receiving the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie in 1986. He won the Stanley Cup in 1989 with the Calgary Flames. Gary also played for the Chicago Blackhawks and the San Jose Sharks. Gary's nephew Ryan Suter currently plays for the Nashville Predators.
On February 1, 1998, Suter cross-checked Paul Kariya in the jaw, causing Kariya to miss the last 28 games of the NHL season as well as the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. Suter was suspended for four games.
