Gaudy

Encyclopedia : G : GA : GAU : Gaudy

A gaudy (from the Latin, "gaudere", meaning "to rejoice") at the University of Oxford is a reunion held by a college for its alumni. The origin of the term may be connected to the traditional University graduation song, Gaudeamus. Gaudy celebrations often take place during the summer vacation, and may include events such as speeches, lectures, concerts and invariably a formal dinner with after dinner speeches.
