Gauge

The term gauge is commonly used to measure diameter or thickness:

The diameter of a wire, expressed by the American wire gauge.
In firearms, the caliber of a gun barrel expressed as gauge (bore diameter).
In medicine, the diameter of a needle corresponding to the Stubs Iron Wire Gauge.
In metallurgy, the thickness of a sheet of metal.
