The General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee (Simplified Chinese: }}}; pinyin: ) is the highest ranking official within the Communist Party of China and heads the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China. The General Secretary is the highest ranking member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China. (Note, this has not always been the case at the time when the position of the Chairman of the Communist Party existed). Previously, the Chairman of the Communist Party of China was the highest position in the CPC hierarchy, but that position was abolished on September 11, 1982.
The current Secretary-General is Hu Jintao.
