Genetic Savings & Clone, Inc. is the name of a company headquartered in Sausalito, CA that offers commercial pet gene banking and cloning services. The company opened for business in February 2000, launched its pet cloning service in February 2004, and delivered the world's first commercially cloned cat, Little Nicky, in December 2004.
Controversy
The company has attracted criticism from those who believe that cloning is unnatural, that it's unethical for people to obtain pets from commercial sources when so many homeless pets languish in shelters, that animal cloning is a slippery slope to human cloning, and that cloning harms the animals involved.
