George Liquor
Encyclopedia : G : GE : GEO : George Liquor
George was created by Kricfalusi in the late 1970s or early-to-mid 1980s immediately after seeing a building called "George Liquor" (it was supposed to say "George's Liquor"). George was later used in The Ren and Stimpy Show.
George was meant to be a main character and the master of Ren and Stimpy, but executives at Nickelodeon hated him because they at first thought his last name was "Lick Her" (indeed, Kricfalusi inserted a graphic spelling out George's name onscreen in order to avoid just such confusion) and he treated Ren and Stimpy like they were in the army.
George only made it into two episodes of Ren and Stimpy, one of which never aired. The unaired episode, "Man's Best Friend", was not shown on television for years because of its violence (it ends with Ren bludgeoning George with an oar). The other did air, 'Dog Show', but only a few times, and only once uncensored (although the closing shot of the episode was used in commercials for the show as well as its commercial indents). Later airings remove all references to George's last name, Liquor (including on-screen showings that clearly show that his surname is not "Lick Her"), and a shot in which the figure of a tail pops up in the back of George's pants.
When Kricfalusi was fired, he was given ownership of George Liquor, under the conditions that George could never be a child molester or mass murderer (to which Kricfalusi responded "how many murders does it take for him to be considered a 'mass murderer'?"). George has since appeared in comics and internet cartoons with his nephew, Jimmy The Hapless Idiot Boy; Jimmy's numbskull cousins, Slab and Ernie; Jimmy's love interest, Sody Pop; and George and Jimmy's pet dog, Dirty Dog.
John K. recently announced that a direct-to-DVD George Liquor movie is in the works.
