Gerald Padua Santos (born May 15, 1990; Navotas, Metro Manila, Philippines) is the grand champion of the recently concluded Pinoy Pop Superstar Grand showdown and the youngest grand contender of the show's second batch.
Biography
Gerald Santos came from a very poor family in Navotas. His father, Danilo is a fisherman while his mother, Mary Ann is a cashier in the fish port. He is the second among the four siblings. Before he joined Pinoy Pop Superstar, he used to take care of his two younger siblings. He celebrates birthday with a simple sponge cake because his parents cannot afford for a cake. His father is his influence in joining the biggest singing competition in the country.According to his life story in Magpakailanman (which Gerald portrays himself), His mother suffered a slip disk, that would require for operation; however they can't afford for that. The Santoses had a debt of thousands of pesos. Gerald joined the amateur singing competition in their home town and won the prize money his mother needed for the operation. Fortunately, Mary Ann survived the operation. Another problem that Gerald encounter is that when his father got into illegal drugs. It began when Danilo got hired by a recruiter and he got interested to go to Japan. In the later he suddenly returned to the Philippines and it was found out that it was an illegal recruiter. Gerald witnesses his father's struggles with drugs, which his father went into rehabilitation for two years.
Career
Singing
Currently, his singing performance can be watched in SOP and other guestings in GMA Network and soon to be co-hosting Popstar Kids on QTV. He also appears in concerts of Rufa Mae Quinto and K Brosas. His upcoming album is yet to be released on August, 2006 under GMA Records.Acting
Aside from singing, Gerald also wished to try acting and since GMA Artist Center has acting workshop, his acting potential has been shown and when GMA Network gave him a big break in acting as he became one of the cast of I Luv NY. For the first time in Pinoy Pop Superstar and Magpakailanman, Gerald portrayed his own life story, unlike other PPS finalists, which their life stories were portrayed by other actors and actresses.
