German Bight
Encyclopedia : G : GE : GER : German Bight
German Bight (German: Deutsche Bucht, Danish: Tyske Bugt) is the south-eastern bight of the North Sea that corners the Netherlands and Germany to the south, Denmark and Germany to the east (Jutland peninsula). To the north and west it's limited by the dogger bank. The southern part is also known as Heligoland Bight. The Frisian islands and the nearby coastal area are collectively known as Frisia. Between 1949 and 1956 the BBC Sea Area Forecast (Shipping Forecast) used "Heligoland" as the designation for the area known as the German Bight.
