Getamungstit is the magazine of Griffith University's Gold Coast Campus. It is printed as a 70 page glossy feature magazine aiming to provide broad appeal and a critical account of student life, from a students perspective. The magazine is renowned as the leading student journalism publication in Australia, with a distribution rate that is higher than the actual number of enrolled students on campus. It is available in print monthly (throughout the academic calendar) or can be downloaded for free online. The circulation is 15,000 copies in print per month, in addition to the online downloads. Many articles published in Getamungstit have either been nominated for or gone on to win Queensland Media Awards and past journalists and editors have also used their role with the magazine as platform to future success. The most distinguishing feature of the magazine is the way in which it bucks the traditional trend of having a cover with headlines. Instead each cover of Getamungstit is adorned with original artwork created by students. The magazine has been very vocal in their fight against Voluntary Student Unionism to the point where they have actively replied to their readers with rude and standoffish comments against those in favour of this new change.

Content

The magazine encompasses a broad subject matter with respect to content. While the readership is primarily made up of younger people (the average age for a Griffith Gold Coast University student is 23), Griffith has many mature age students and the magazine is also read by staff and the Gold Coast community. There have even been reports of Getamungstit ending up in Canberra.

Each edition contains an editorial, usually four or five columnists, serious feature articles and hard hitting investigative journalism reports, music and movie reviews, a good coverage of university sport and cultural activities and of course, lots of comedy, including the highly controversial GNNN.
