Rep. Gil Gutknecht

Gilbert William "Gil" Gutknecht, Jr. (born March 20 1951), is an American politician. Gutknecht has been a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 1995, representing Minnesota's First Congressional District ([map]). He was born in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and graduated with a degree in business from the University of Northern Iowa. He was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1982 to 1994 before entering Congress.

Gutknect has announced that he will run for re-election in 2006, despite a promise when first elected that he would never serve more than 12 years.[link] His opponent is Tim Walz (DFL - Mankato).
