Glere is a commune in the departement of Doubs in the region of Franche-Compte in France. In 1999, the French Census Bureau calculated its population to be 210 residents. Its altitude is 410 meters above sea level and the area of the commune composes 150 hectares. Many of the residents still work in the agricultural sector with dairy cows still a large part of the town's economy. Many residents also commute to nearby Switzerland to work in factories. The town hosts a 17th century church, a post office, two restaraunts and a bar. The town with its location on the tranquil Doubs River, is a perennial favorite with fishermen and campers. In the early 1990's, Roger Macabrey, a legion d'Honneur recipient for his actions during World War II and former mayor of the town, acted as conseil-generale of the departement to promote initiatives to bring more tourists to the region.
