Glade Spring is a town in Washington County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,374 at the 2000 census.
History

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.3 km² (1.3 mi²), all land.
Demographics
As of the census[Geographic references#2GR2] of 2000, there were 1,374 people, 565 households, and 402 families residing in the town. The population density was 421.0/km² (1,093.4/mi²). There were 626 housing units at an average density of 191.8/km² (498.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 92.36% White, 7.06% African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.22% from other races, and 0.15% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.07% of the population.There were 565 households out of which 27.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.9% were married couples living together, 13.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% were non-families. 26.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.96.
In the town the population was spread out with 22.9% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 25.5% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 85.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.0 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $31,552, and the median income for a family was $36,902. Males had a median income of $27,847 versus $20,982 for females. The per capita income for the town was $16,842. About 8.1% of families and 9.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.9% of those under age 18 and 13.1% of those age 65 or over.
