Glazov

Glazov (Russian: ; Udmurt: Глазкар) is a city located in the north of the Republic of Udmurtia, Russia. It is located along the Trans-Siberian Railway, at [58°8′N 52°40′E]. Population: 100,894 (2002 Census). It is known for Chepetsk Mechanical Works Russian main producer of uranium, zirconium, and calcium gadgets for Nuclear Power Stations, military, and space technologies.

The town was founded in the 16th century as a village; town status was granted to it in 1780.

Glazov is an industrial and cultural center of Udmurtia.

There are five establishments of higher education in the city: Glazov State Pedagogical Institute named after V. G. Korolenko, Glazov branch of Izhevsk State Technical University being the largest ones.

Machine-building, wood-working, clothing and food industries are developed in the town.

Trivia

Olga Knipper, wife of the famous Russian writer Anton Chekhov, was born in Glazov.
