- For the early form of Christianity see Gnosticism
A number of schisms in Samael Aun Weor's movement ensued shortly after his death. Although he explicitly stated in his work, The Greater Mysteries, that no instructors should call themselves a Master, some of Samael Aun Weor's more "advanced" or "mistaken" students (depending upon the viewpoint) proclaimed themselves as such and fought over patriarchal duties. Certain students were more successful at gaining a following than others, and currently there are a number of different lineages of "Masters" that have schools in various parts of the world. A number of international and local schools reject all of these self-proclaimed Masters believing them to be adulterations of the original doctrine.
A number of cult watch groups label Samael Aun Weor schools as possible cults (see Pseudo-Schools) yet their assements rarely recongnize the broad range and quality of schools that exist. For example, some schools are internationally affiliated with the Gnostic Association for Anthropological, Cultural, and Scientific Studies (AGEAC) or the Gnostic Institute of Anthropology (IGA) (co-ordinated by the son of Samael Aun Weor), while others are independent intuitions.
Samael Aun Weor understood the difficult nature of spiritual schools degenerating into cults of personality, and explains the proper mythos Gnostic Schools should exemplify in the forward of his book The Zodiacal Course:
- "Schools have already given everything they have to offer. The centers of knowledge have now been converted into places of business, each with its own tyrant that forbids its adepts and students to go out in search of knowledge. Prohibitions here, excommunications and threats there, always leaving things for tomorrow, making a big issue out of the password, the protective amulet, the nonphysical ultra secrets that no other school possesses. So these anxious tyrants hang around for centuries, gathering up their heartless henchmen.
- "Therefore, we are not looking for flatterers of masters nor are we interested in hard-hearted henchmen. We are just guiding pillars; so do not become attached to us because our mission is not to gather up followers. We indicate with logical thought and exact concept the path to follow so that everyone can reach his own Internal Master who dwells in silence within each one of us...
- "We are not interested in anyone's money, nor are we interested in monthly fees, brick, cement or clay lecture halls because we are conscious visitors in the cathedral of the soul and we know that wisdom belongs to the soul. Flattery bores us, praise should only belong to our Father, who is in secret and who watches us closely.
- "We are not in search of followers, all we want is for each person to follow his Inner Self, his own Internal Master, his sacred Inner Being because He is the only one that can save and glorify us.
- "Men offer human knowledge, therefore I, Samael Aun Weor do not follow anyone but God, who offers the Bread of Life; the Truth is what shall set you free. This is why no one should follow me. Whosoever follows his Inner God will become a leader of himself and therefore, he will be blessed.
- "We do not want any more comedies, pretenses, false mysticism or false schools. What we want now are living realities; we want to prepare ourselves to see, hear and touch the reality of those truths. Let us seize the sword of willpower in order to break the chains of this world and boldly launch ourselves towards a remarkable battle for liberation, because we know that salvation lies within the human being."
School Types
International
The main international organizations that exist are the AGEAC and the IGA. They contain schools around the world and hold International Gnostic Congresses on a regular basis, usually every year. According to Samael Aun Weor any school that does not carry the Three Chamber structure is not an authentic Gnostic School.Aun Weor, Samael. [Final Catastrophe], Thelema Press. URL retrieved 22nd June 2006. Thus in the view of many schools such as IGA and AGEAC, the New Order offshoots are only superficially affiliated of the doctrine of Samael Aun Weor because they do not contain all of the teachings.New Order Schools
Joaquín Amórtegui, a close disciple of Samael Aun Weor, was thrown out of the AGEAC schools, most likely for claiming to be the leader of the Gnostic Movement after Samael Aun Weor’s death. Amórtegui subsequently founded the “New Order” schools as “Master Rabolu.” There are three major defining characteristics of these schools:- They believe that Amórtegui provides superior (i.e. “faster”) methods for the dissolution of the ego, namely the so-called “death in motion.” Zoccatelli, P.L. (2000). [Il paradigma esoterico e un modello di applicazione. Note sul movimento gnostico di Samael Aun Weor, La Critica Sociologica].
- They state that Samael Aun Weor wishes that only five of his books should be read, and the rest should be burned.
- They do not carry the Three Chamber Structure.

A successor of Joaquín Amórtegui was Mark Pritchard (Master Belzebuub) who founded the "The Gnostic Movement" based in Australia. Generally these schools are rejected by other New Order Schools. A number of websites are run by this organization.[link][link][link]Pseudo-Schools
Some schools are more or less personality cults, of either Samael Aun Weor or any other of the many self-proclaimed Masters that make use of his doctrine. Some of these schools can be quite dangerous. Although stating to carry the doctrine of Samael Aun Weor, it is clearly evident that they do not. Extreme examples of misconduct include:- The demand of any type of monetary reciprocation whatsoever for access to the teachings.
- The demand to “sacrifice for humanity” by relinquishing all material wealth.
- Flogging or other physical abuse.
- The use of psychedelics.
- Forbidding social and family activity.
- Forbidding students to explore any other philosophical or spiritual doctrine.
- Publicly criticizing students; calling them “stupid,” “unworthy,” etc.
Other
There also exist many schools teaching the doctrine of Samael Aun Weor that do not officially belong to any international organization, do not follow the personality of any "Master" and teach the doctrine as presented by Samael Aun Weor.List of self-proclaimed Masters
