Gold Country

Gold Country (also Mother Lode Country) is a region in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of California. It is famed for the mines and mineral deposits which attracted waves of immigrants, known as the 49ers, for the 1849 California Gold Rush.

Area
The Gold Country is generally thought to lie north of Yosemite, along California State Highway 49 between the north fork of the Yuba River and the middle fork of the Cosumnes River.It includes parts of nine of California's counties: Amador, Butte, Calaveras, El Dorado, Mariposa, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento and Tuolumne.

The Gold Country lies on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada, reaching down to the Sacramento Valley.Climate
