Gone in Sixty Seconds is a 2000 action film, starring Nicholas Cage, directed by Dominic Sena, and written by Scott Rosenberg. It was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, and is a remake of the 1974 H.B. Halicki film Gone in 60 Seconds.
The film concerns a former car thief being forced to return to his former trade and steal fifty cars in one night for a crime boss who is threatening to kill his brother. It stars Nicolas Cage as "Memphis", Angelina Jolie as "Sway", Robert Duvall as Otto, Christopher Eccleston as Raymond Vincent Calitri and the former British association football (soccer) player Vinnie Jones as "The Sphinx". Delroy Lindo plays Detective Roland Castlebeck.
Plot summary
Randall "Memphis" Raines is the top ranked car thief in Long Beach. However he chooses to walk away from the life, the city and his girlfriend at the peak of his career, in order to prevent his brother from following down the same path. Car theft in Long Beach goes down 47%.
Kip Raines is the younger brother of Memphis. He respects his brother and his brother's skill in his chosen business and dreams of becoming a car thief, like his brother. While Memphis is away, he becomes the leader of a small, yet high profile, car theft group.
While working as a children's go-cart racing instructor an "old friend" approaches him, telling him that Kip has gotten into trouble. Kip has messed up a job for stolen-car broker Raymond Calitri. Memphis speaks with Calitri and tries to negotiate, offering to pay the $10 000 Kip owes. Calitri however, demands Memphis bring him 50 exotic cars within four days in order to save his brother's life. The cars are to be parked on a container ship by 8:00 am.
Having no choice, Memphis contacts his old partners. The police take notice of this and begin tracking Memphis in an effort stop him.
Memphis succeeds in stealing 49 cars and placing them on the container ship, leaving him with only one car left to steal-- a 1967 Shelby Mustang GT 500. Memphis attempts to steal the car, but is ambushed by the police who Memphis attempts to evade. Memphis succeeds in bringing the car to the ship, however, he is late and has damaged it. Calitri orders Memphis killed and the car crushed.
About to be executed, Memphis is saved by Kip. Calitri goes after Memphis in a three-way chase involving the police. Memphis hides, but when Calitri is about to kill a police officer, Memphis chooses to save him and in return the officer allows him to escape. Before he goes, Memphis tells him the location of the container ship and the stolen cars.
Memphis heads to his mentor's garage, and celebrates with his friends and girlfriend. Kip brings his brother a gift to thank him-- a Shelby Mustang in dire need of repair. The excited Memphis drives off with his girlfriend.

Sequel?
Due to the films stellar box-office performance and huge fan-base, a sequel has been rumored for quite some time. However, due to Nicolas Cage's currently demanding schedule there are no firm plans for a 2nd film starring Cage.
