"Good Night" is a song by The Beatles. It was the finishing track of their self titled album (The "White Album"). John Lennon apparently didn't want to perform it because it didn't fit his "hard-rocker image". It is sung by Ringo Starr, the only Beatle to appear on the song; the music is provided by an orchestra. John Lennon originally wrote the song as a lullaby for his son Julian.
George Martin's arrangement for the orchestra is excessively lush, and intentionally so. John Lennon is said to have wanted the song to sound "real cheesy" – like a Gordon Jenkins-esque Hollywood production number.
The song has been covered by several artists, including The Carpenters, Kenny Loggins, Cyril Stapleton, Manhattan Transfer, and former Monkee drummer Micky Dolenz.
