Great Lakes (band)
Encyclopedia : G : GR : GRE : Great Lakes (band)
Great Lakes is an indie pop band from Athens, GA largely associated with the Elephant Six Collective.
The core of the group consists of Dan Donahue, Ben Crum, and Jamey Huggins, who teamed up to write and record music on their own. Their first (and future) live shows, however, saw the lineup grow to include members of Of Montreal, Elf Power, The Gerbils, and Neutral Milk Hotel, often resulting in nearly a dozen performing members.
They released their first self-titled album in 2000 on Kindercore Records, along with a complimentary single on Happy Happy Birthday to Me. After releasing a number of other singles, including a split single with Elf Power, they released their second album, The Distance Between, on Orange Twin in 2002.
Fellow Elephant Six group The Essex Green has a side project called The Sixth Great Lake which should not be confused with this separate group.
