The Great Valley School District is located in southeastern Pennsylvania, in the suburbs of Philadelphia. It is in the Delaware Valley region, in eastern Chester County, and provides education for the residents of Charlestown, East Whiteland, and Willistown townships, and the borough of Malvern. The district is in the broad area named Great Valley.

School Information

Four elementary schools each cover subsections of the district, and students from all four are merged together upon entering Middle School.

General Wayne was formerly the Middle School, and there were only three elementary schools. However, in recent years, the school district population has been growing very rapidly, and a new middle school was built to compensate for the larger student body. After the new middle school was complete, General Wayne was closed for repairs. After these were finished, the students who formerly went to Sugartown were sent to the newly-opened General Wayne Elementary School, so that Sugartown could undergo repairs as well. It was then reopened as a fourth elementary school. Sugartown is also being made into a school at the moment and is supposed to be ready by next year for students.

In addition, the high school underwent a 4 year renovation that is expected to be complete for the 2006-2007 school year.

Redistricted

After Sugartown's elementary renovation, redistricting is now required for Sugartown to reopen. This process was started in June 2004 and will be implemented in the 2006-2007 school year.
