Description
The details concerning the nature of Hades are variable. It contains several remarkable places however:- the Elysian fields (or later the Isles of the Blessed), the final resting place of the souls of the heroic and the virtuous;
- the lugubrious Asphodel Meadows, where the phantoms of the dead carry out a dull and insubstantial existence;
- the Tartarus, where those who offended the gods are subjected to eternal punishment.
