Greenbottle blue tarantula

Encyclopedia : G : GR : GRE : Greenbottle blue tarantula

The greenbottle blue tarantula, a native of Venezuela, has some of the most dramatic coloring of any spider species. The greenbottle has metallic blue legs, a blue-green carapace with a vibrant orange abdomen.

They are very active, fast-growing and, to enthusiasts, good looking spiders. Quite popular species among the tarantula hobbyists.

Natural habitat

These tarantulas live in webbed burrows under bushes and tree roots at the desert areas of Northern Venezuela, near Paraguana. The entrance is often extended with webbings, sometimes resembling a tunnel. These webs secure the entrance from harsh desert climate and also act as a trap for insects passing by.

Behaviour

This species is interesting to observe as it lives quite an active life. It keeps its burrow in good shape by regularly renewing the webbings. In captivity it's common that the spider webs through the whole container.

These tarantulas are generally considered to be somewhat skittish and nervous but this may vary greatly between different individuals. Some are calm and docile. They can run very fast if disturbed.

This tarantula eats often as it is a fast grower.
