Gregory C. Farrington is the 12th and current President of Lehigh University. Prior to his appointment in 1998, he served as Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania.
Farrington earned his B.S. in chemistry from Clarkson University in 1968 and his Ph.D. in chemistry from Harvard University in 1972. In 1984, he was awarded an honorary Ph.D. by the University of Uppsala, Sweden. Farrington has published more than 100 technical articles and holds over two dozen patents.
As President, Farrington has overseen the construction of the apartments and shops at Campus Square and the multi-million dollar renovation of Linderman Library. On October 7, 2005, during his State of the University address, he announced that he would be stepping down as president in June of 2006. He will remain at Lehigh as Distinguished University Service Professor. His replacement will be Alice Gast, formerly of MIT.
