Lines in operation
The metro network currently has 4 lines operational, 3 under construction and 4 planned. The total operational length is scheduled to grow to 190.8 km by 2010.
Line 1 (red)
Line 1 runs from Xilang to Guangzhou East Railway Station (18.5km).
- June 28, 1997: Xilang-Huangsha
- June 28, 1999: Huangsha-Guangzhou East Railway Station (Guangzhoudongzhan)
Line 2 (yellow)
Line 2 runs from Sanyuanli to Wanshengwei, interchanging with Line 1 at Gongyuanqian (18.3km).
- December 29, 2002: Sanyuanli-Xiaogang
- June 28, 2003: Xiaogang-Pazhou
- December 26, 2005: Pazhou-Wanshengwei
Line 3 (blue)
Line 3 will be a 36-kilometer Y-shaped line connecting Guangzhou East Railway Station (Line 1) and Tianhe Passenger Transport Station to Panyu Plaza. The line will in the future also be extended to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.
- December 26, 2005: Guangzhou East Railway Station-Kecun
Line 4 (orange)
Line 4 will run from Science Town to Pazhouta, where it will interchange with Line 2. The first section opened in 2005.

Lines under construction
Guangfo Line
A 33-km metro line connecting Guangzhou to sister city Foshan is under construction for completion in 2006-2007.Lines In Plan

(In Plan)Line 6 was plan to start by Pearl River Big Bridge and end near at Tianhe Bus staion with 9 intersectionLine 7
(In Plan)Line 7 Starts at Fangcun going around downtown by south and end at Luogang District with 7 intersection.Line 8
(In Plan)Line 8 Start next to Line 2 by Jiahe in Baiyun District and part of line 2 will become Line 8 with 8 intersection.Line 9
