Gun truck
Encyclopedia : G : GU : GUN : Gun truck
The gun truck was an improvised vehicle used by U.S. Army transportation units during the Vietnam War. After a series of ambushes, soldiers began modifying two to ten ton cargo trucks with heavy machine guns and mini-cannons capable of firing thousands of rounds per minute. The gun crews were protected by sandbags and steel plates. An estimated 300 to 400 gun trucks were deployed during the war.
More modern usage of gun trucks has been in Iraq by Army and Air Force personnel. Their armored trucks have M249 machine guns mounted on them.
