Hînceşti

Hînceşti is a town in Moldova, also written without diacritics as "Hincesti" or "Hancesti". In Cyrillic spelling it was known as Хынчешть.
According to the latest 2004 census, the town has 15260 inhabitants. Since 2003 it has been the seat of Raionul Hînceşti (Hînceşti District).
Within the Russian Empire it was known under the Russified name Gincheshty (Гинчешты). From 1940 to 1990 it was known as Kotovsk, named after Grigore Kotovski, who was born there.
