History
One of the sections of the Dynamo Moscow sports club, the team was founded in 1946 and in its early days was sponsored by the KGB. They are among Russia's most successful clubs, winning the Soviet Championship in 1947, 1954, 1990, and 1991, the Russian Championship in 1992, 1993, 1995, and 2000, and the Russian Superleague in 1999-2000 and 2005. They also won the Spengler Cup in 1983-84 and the IIHF European Champions Cup in 2006.Alexander Ovechkin played for Dynamo before departing for NHL.
