The Golden Forum (Chinese: 香港高登討論區) is a popular internet forum for topics related to computer hardware and software, among internet users in Hong Kong. It has also became a more general Internet community. It is part of HKGolden.com, a computer information portal named after the Golden Computer Arcade - a shopping center of computer products in Sham Shui Po, New Kowloon, Hong Kong.

It is said that throughout their generally considered "senseless discussions", a number of Cantonese slang words are "invented". For example: JJable (meaning someone is "hot" or "sexy"), 打JJ (meaning male masturbation) and 硬膠 (Lit. Hard Plastic which has pronunciation similar to 戇鳩, Cantonese for retarded dick)

The forum members are also infamous for their unforgiving photochopping of some particular members who caught the attention of the rest of the forum with their eccentric personalities, rendering them some sort of "legends" of the forum.

The icon ":o)" (clown) is said to be the representation of the forum. It has "mutated" into a whole variety of "artworks".

Despite its foundation as a forum on vapid-related topics, Golden Forum, claimed that they had contributed to the high turnout, especially the younger generations, to participate at the 2003 and 2004 July 1 protests and 124 March.

The site has been embroiled in a dispute with a political party, the DAB, over a video contributed by its members, accusing the party campaigners who were handling out flyers on the street of being rude and swearing at passer-bys. It posted an apology statement on its main page on May 18, 2005.

There is another public forum (a forum with more gentle minded members, and rules restricting foul language) popular among hardware DIY users in Hong Kong, HKEPC.

Unfortunately , the quality of HK Golden Forum has worsened because of the large number of meaingless threads , which users in HK Golden Forum call them "plastic articles" (膠文) or "trendy articles" (潮文) . For those who create the meaningless articles are called "fake plastic" (假膠) , they aim to draw browsers' attention in order to gain a large number of replies or to become reputed as HK Golden users hold an election , the Monthly Star (每月之星). The most foolish user in HK Golden Forum would become the Monthly Star and is teased by the users .

The History of HK Golden Forum

The forum started at about 1999. The forum had many hacking conflicts with other forum, such as [2000fun.], one of the biggest gaming forum in HK. Originally, the forum is hosted by an individual called Dr. Jim. However, the forum was hacked by the members of HKGolden Forum. Then the forum was sold to Fevaworks.
