HMCS Terra Nova is a Canadian Restigouche-class destroyer escort. She was built in 1959 and served in the 1991 Gulf War. Terra Nova was finally paid off on 11 July 1997.
Like all Cold War-era Canadian destroyers, she is named for a river, in this case the Terra Nova River in Newfoundland. The name of the river, in turn, comes from the Latin form of Newfoundland.
Terra Nova was the last of her class to be in service. After being paid off she appeared, as an American destroyer, in the movie .
