HMS Lawford

Encyclopedia : H : HM : HMS : HMS Lawford

HMS Lawford was an Royal Navy frigate that was hit by enemy fire and sunk during the invasion of France on D-Day in 1944. Thirty-seven of her crew died. The Navy's explanation that the ship was downed by a torpedo had never been fully accepted and a later expedition found proof that the explosion came from inside the ship. This means it was a guided missile, that enters the ships and then detonates, that sank the HMS Lawford.
