HSBC SA was formed on 1st November 2005 when CCF SA (Crédit Commercial de France) along with subsidiary companies UBP, Banque de Picardie and Banque Hervet rebranded as HSBC.

CCF joins the HSBC Group

CCF was operating with 650 branches and assets of €69 billion by the end of the 20th century. In April 2000, HSBC Holdings plc announced its intention to acquire the bank and the deal was completed in July. That month, HSBC Holdings plc was listed on the Paris Stock Exchange for the first time. The acquisition enabled HSBC to establish a position in one of the main European markets, and to build a strong platform in the euro zone. CCF has continued to expand with the purchase of Banque Pelletier (2000) and Banque Hervet (2001).

CCF SA became HSBC SA on 1st November 2005, rebranding its operations as HSBC along with subsidiary companies UBP, Banque de Picardie and Banque Hervet.

French Banking

The former networks of CCF, Union de Banques à Paris, Banque Hervet in the Paris region, Banque de Picardie and Banque de Baecque Beau now trade as HSBC. This represents a 350 strong network of branches in France with a very strong presence in the Paris region.

Along with the HSBC branded operations, the group operates a further 420 branches spread across seven regional subsidiaries, bringing the total network to some 14,000 employees and 770 branches.

Banque Chaix

Founded in 1924 by Joseph Chaix, Banque Chaix developed in the Vaucluse and north Bouches du Rhône departments. It is also present in parts of the Gard, Drôme and Hérault departments. Chaix has 66 branches, administered in 12 groups and employs some 400 staff.

Banque Dupuy, de Parseval

Banque Dupuy, de Parseval operates in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, having been founded in Sète in 1845 to specialise in trade transactions, the bank now has a dense network of 40 branches, also operating in the Hérault.

Banque Marze

Marze has 11 branches, established in the period since 1886, serving the southern business areas of the Ardèche and the Drôme. 75 employees serve customers such as private individuals or businesses, with a focus on the regional SME category.

CCSO

Crédit Commercial du Sud-Ouest operate 56 outlets across the Aquitaine region.

Société Marseillaise de Crédit

Other French Operations

Other group operations in France include a significant HSBC Private Bank presence, along with a major Corporate Institutional Banking and Markets operation. The Paris trading floor is the Group's second largest trading floor in Europe. Specific areas of particular expertise and responsibility are the trading of government bonds and euro interest rate derivatives, arranging of corporate cash calls, disintermediated and structured finance and project finance.
