Half Marathon

A half marathon is a road running event of 21.0975 km (~13 miles 193 yd). It is half the distance of a marathon and usually run on roads. It is a popular race for relative amateurs, long enough to be a serious challenge but not requiring the level of training of a full marathon. In consequence, many towns and cities hold annual all-comers half marathon races through their streets.
World records
The world record is 58:55, set by Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia on January 15, 2006, in Tempe, Arizona, USA.The female world record is 1:06:44, set by Elana Meyer of South Africa on Jan 15, 1999, in Tokyo, Japan.
