Haltemprice was a former urban district and currently refers to an area in the East Riding of Yorkshire, directly to the West of Hull. It comprises the villages, Anlaby, Cottingham, Hessle, Kirk Ella, Skidby, West Ella and Willerby.

The urban district was formed in 1935 from the merger of the Hessle and Cottingham urban districts. [link] In 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, it was merged to form part of the Beverley in Humberside, the northern half of which became the reconstitued East Riding in 1996.

The Parliamentary seat is held by Shadow Home Secretary David Davis and was held by fictional Tory MP Alan B'Stard in the ITV sitcom The New Statesman.
