Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS), a university specializing in languages and foreign studies, is located in Seoul, South Korea.

History

HUFS was founded as a college for studying foreign languages in April 1954 with its first students studying English, French, Chinese, German and Russian. Through the 1960s and 70s, the college expanded its programs and finally became a university in 1980. In 1981, it opened its second campus in Yong-in near Seoul.

HUFS has continued to set up new language departments, graduate courses, and various research institutes. Now, there are more than 50 departments including Social sciences, East European studies, Humanites, Asia-African studies, Natural sciences. The university is the mecca for regional studies in South Korea.

Since 2004 the closely-associated Cyber University of Foreign Studies, based at HUFS, has been offering on-line courses in English, Japanese and Chinese language, as well as Business Administration and Journalism and Mass Communication.
