Harakat-i-Islami

Islamic Movement of Afghanistan (Harakat-i-Islami-yi Afghanistan) is a political party and former faction of the Afghan Northern Alliance (United Front) in Afghanistan. It is a small mostly Shiah, mostly Hazara group from Hazarajat in Kandahar. Led by Ayatollah Muhammad Asif Muhsini and other Shia who are not of the Hazara ethnic minority. It has been supported by Iran.

Fought against both the Taliban and against Hizb-e-Wahdat; some alliances formed with Hizb-e-Wahdat in 1980s and 90s and some commanders went over to Taliban also.

Now part of the government. Currently involved in human rights violations : arresting and killing people all over the country through government infrastructure, especially in Herat (west) Kandahar (south) and Hazarajat and Mazarsharif (central).
