Harlan County is a county located in the U.S. state of Nebraska. As of 2000, the population is 3,786. Its county seat is Alma6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,487 km² (574 mi²). 1,432 km² (553 mi²) of it is land and 55 km² (21 mi²) of it (3.73%) is water.Adjacent Counties

The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.93.
In the county the population was spread out with 24.20% under the age of 18, 5.00% from 18 to 24, 21.60% from 25 to 44, 26.20% from 45 to 64, and 23.00% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 98.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.80 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $30,679, and the median income for a family was $36,875. Males had a median income of $27,580 versus $18,411 for females. The per capita income for the county was $15,618. About 7.00% of families and 10.10% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.40% of those under age 18 and 9.10% of those age 65 or over.
