Harmony Airways

Encyclopedia : H : HA : HAR : Harmony Airways

Harmony Airways (formerly known as HMY Airways) is a full service airline based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Harmony offers advance seat selection, a full meal service, complimentary beverages, and in-flight entertainment and vacation packages (through its tour operator, Harmony Vacations).

History

Originally established and started operations as "HMY Airways", in 2002 by Canadian entrepreneur Dr. David T.K. Ho, the airline was renamed "Harmony Airways" in 2004 in a marketing attempt to make the brand more memorable; the airline's operating company still retains the name HMY. A key HMY spokesperson was Hong Kong actor Jackie Chan. In 2004, former British Columbia Finance Minister Gary Collins resigned to become Chief Executive Officer of Harmony. As of January 2005, Harmony discontinued service to Los Angeles and began flights to Palm Springs, California.

In May 2005, Harmony announced:

Throughout the summer of 2005, Harmony provided additional direct service from Abbotsford and Victoria to Hawaii.

-->
It will inaugurate nonstop service on June 2006 as follows : Due to the introduction of "harmonyone" business class, all Harmony aircraft have phased out the Companion Class premium economy/coach class service.

In May 2006, Harmony Airways and CanJet announced a partnership to start June 1st allowing passengers to transfer between the two airlines in Toronto. Harmony and CanJet will offer one-stop booking and luggage check-through between the two airlines.

In June 2006, Harmony Airways and Hawaiian Airlines filed a codeshare application with the US Department of Transportation. Hawaiian will codeshare Harmony's flights from Vancouver to Honolulu and Kahului, and Harmony wishes to put its code on some of Hawaiian's interisland flights from Honolulu and Kahului, as well as Hawaiian's sole Australian flight, from Honolulu to Sydney. This would put Harmony in direct competition with Air Canada's Australian flights, which also route Vancouver-Honolulu-Sydney. [link]
