Harrow-on-the-Hill station is a National Rail and London Underground station situated in Harrow in the London Borough of Harrow.
London Underground
The London Underground service at Harrow-on-the-Hill is provided by the Metropolitan line and it is the last station before the line divides into a branch to Uxbridge and a branch which further splits to serve Amersham and Watford.
The next adjacent station south east (and towords London) is Northwick Park, north west (and towards Amersham) is North Harrow and to the west (and towards Uxbridge) is West Harrow. However, the Metropolitan line operates a complex pattern of trains and not all trains stop at all stations. Many "fast" and "semi-fast" services do not stop between this station and Finchley Road station.
Trains to central London terminate at either Aldgate or Baker Street stations with some services terminating at Moorgate.
The station was opened as "Harrow" on 2nd August 1880, when the Metropolitan Railway was extended from its previous terminus at Willesden Green. Its name was changed to "Harrow-on-the-Hill" on 1st June 1894. The station is at the heart of Metro-land.
National Rail
The National Rail service at Harrow-on-the-Hill is provided by Chiltern Railways. Services operate between Marylebone station and Aylesbury. This service began as the Great Central Railway on 15th March 1899.
Station Buildings
The station is above ground and has 6 platforms. Two of these are normally used by Chiltern Railways and the other four by the Metropolitan Line, although the layout allows some flexibility in this.
The station has two entrances, one on Station Approach (for the area Harrow-on-the-Hill) and one on College Road (for Harrow Bus Station and the main shopping centres).
