Harry Joseph Santos (born October 16, 1988) is the first grand contender in Pinoy Pop Superstar (PPS) Year 2 of GMA Network, which is hosted by the Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez. During the Grand Showdown last May 6, 2006 at the Araneta Colesium in Quezon City, Philippines. Harry proved that he can also be admired and idolized by the people with his soft and inspiring tone at a tender age of 17. Harry placed third in the competition.
Harry's fans call themselves Harrynatix. He's now a freshman at the University of Sto. Tomas in España, Manila taking up Music Major in Voice.
Early Singing Career
Harry didn't know that he could actually sing. As an alumnus of the San Beda High School Glee Club, Eric, Harry's brother, influenced him to join the same group to be trained not only as a singer but as a disciplined student as well. At 13, Harry had a solo number in the group's annual concert entitiled, "Make That Change". Together with the youngsters aged 13 to 16, Harry sang Michael Jackson's hit song, "Childhood" that made others realise that he could be a great singer someday. In his senior year, he joined the first season of Pinoy Pop Superstar. Fortunately, he was named as the Pinoy Pop Challenger of the week. However, the judges Floy Quinto, Danny Tan and Jaya favored the week's champion, Brenan Espartinez who placed 2nd in the competition's first season.Pinoy Pop Superstar
A born dreamer and achiever, Harry continued his goal to be in the competition. Harry was one of the challengers who were called back to compete again in the hope of getting the title of Pinoy Pop Superstar Champion for at least four weeks in order to be part of the Grand Showdown as one of the grand contenders. In June 2005, Harry marked his fouth week win as the Champion that made him the first grand contender that season. After besting all the challengers, he remained the title as the Pinoy Pop Superstar Champion for seven consecutive weeks. On his 8th week, Gerald Santos bagged the title. In the year-long preparation to be in the Grand Showdown, he appeared in different GMA 7 shows like, SOP, All-Star K The One Million Perso Videoke Challenge, Master Showman, S-Files and SiS among others. He had the opportunity to sing on stage with one of the countries best singers like Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, Janno Gibbs, Kyla and Jay-R.Pinoy Pop Superstar Grand Contenders' Showdown
On the first round of the competition, he sang Josh Groban's song, "To Where You Are", which is also his cut in the Grand Contenders' Album of PPS 2 . Among the seven contenders that night, Harry advanced to the next round together with Gerald Santos, Aicelle Santos and Denver Regencia. In the next round of the competition, he sang another Josh Groban's song, "You Raise Me Up", ending the whole masterpiece with a charming and sincere smile that melted everyone's hearts in the venue. In the end, Gerald Santos and Aicelle Santos, advanced to the final round. Harry placed third in the competition. The 15-year-old Gerald Santos, a son of a fisherman won the title as the Pinoy Pop Superstar.Career After Pinoy Pop Superstar
Harry now appears in GMA Netowrk's Sunday noontime show, SOP. In May 2006, he previously had a TV guesting in Extra Challenge, the network's version of Fear Factor.External links
