Harvard-Westlake is an exclusive college preparatory school in Los Angeles, California. Serving grades seven through twelve, the school is the product of the 1989 merger of Harvard School for Boys (founded in 1900) and Westlake School for Girls (founded in 1904).
The former Harvard campus, located in Studio City, is now the location of the upper school (grades 10 through 12). The former Westlake campus, located near the Bel-Air neighborhood on the Westside, currently houses the middle school (grades 7 through 9).
Harvard-Westlake is noted for high college acceptance rates and subsequent attendance. Currently, approximately 99% of all graduating seniors attend a four-year college or university. [link]
Students are usually dedicated to their schoolwork as well as a variety of extracurricular activities; there are currently over 500 clubs affiliated with the school.[[Citing sources citation needed]] The upper grades at Harvard-Westlake are notable for a very rigorous curriculum. Most Advanced Placement tests are available. There is a community service requirement in order to graduate. Aside from academics, the student newspaper, The Chronicle, has been inducted into the high school newspaper Hall of Fame.[[Citing sources citation needed]]
In 2006, five of Harvard-Westlake's Advanced Placement courses were named by the College Board "The Best Courses In The World" for High Schools with over 800 people in grades 10-12.
