Hector D. Byrd is an African Grey parrot who serves as the office mascot of Ambrosia Software, making cameo appearances in many of the company's games. Hector is female, although this was not known at the time she was named. [link]

In the Escape Velocity series of games, Hector appears as a pilot in a nigh-invulnerable ship, reminding the player that the games are shareware. After thirty days, Hector will attack the player if the game has not been purchased.
