Helios Airways was a low-cost airline operating scheduled and charter flights from Larnaca and Paphos in Cyprus. Its main base was Larnaca International Airport. It has now changed its name to Ajet Aviation Ltd following the Flight 522 incident.

History
The airline was established on 23 September 1998 as the first independent privately-owned airline in Cyprus and on 15 May 2000 operated its first charter flight to London Gatwick. It was formed by the owners of TEA (Cyprus), a Cypriot offshore air operator specialising in Boeing 737 wet-leases worldwide. It started with charter services and added scheduled services on 5 April 2001. Helios was acquired in 2004 by [Libra Holidays Group] of Limassol, Cyprus. On the 14th of March 2006 it was annonuced that Helios Airways will be rebranded as Alpha-Jet and will withdraw from scheduled operations. [[Citing sources citation needed]]Services
Helios Airways operates the following services (as of April 2006):- Scheduled services to Birmingham, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Luton, Manchester, Sofia, Strasbourg and Warsaw
- Charter services to Dublin, Glasgow, Humberside, Madrid, Newcastle, Nottingham, Teesside
Incidents and accidents
- December 20, 2004. A Helios Boeing 737-300 registered as [5B-DBY] suffered a loss of cabin pressure en route from Warsaw. Three passengers were rushed to hospital when the plane landed in Larnaca, Cyprus.
- 14 August 2005. The same aircraft crashed en route from Larnaca to Athens, killing all 121 aboard. Loss of cabin pressure is suspected to be the cause.
Ajet
Helios Airways has rebranded itself as Ajet, (full name Ajet Aviation Ltd). This is most likely to change its public image after the Flight 522 incident.Fleet
