A hex map, hex board or hex grid is a gameboard design commonly used in tactical wargames. The map is subdivided into small regular hexagons of identical size.

The advantage of a hex map over a square grid or grid map is that the distance between a given cell, and all adjacent cells, remains constant. (The distance from the center of a grid map with a cell of side length [x] and diagonal adjacent cells is [x]√2 instead of [x].) This has made the hex map a favourite for many game designers since the 1970s.

The hex grid was a distinguishing feature of the games from Simulations Publications and Avalon Hill.

A few abstract games are played on a hex grid, such as Hex and the television game show based on it, Blockbusters. Several variants of chess have also been invented for a hex board.
