High Seat (Lake District)

Encyclopedia : H : HI : HIG : High Seat (Lake District)

High Seat is a hill in the central Lake District. Despite being quite low (below 2,000 feet), it is the highest point for about 5 miles in every direction; a consequence of the curious fact that the central part of the district is lower than the surrounding parts. It is nearly a Hewitt, being 1,995 feet high.

The summit (and indeed most of the surrounding area) is a vast bog, especially after heavy rain. A rocky knoll (called Man) stands on the summit.
