Hocking County is a county located in the state of Ohio, United States. As of 2000, the population was 28,241. Its county seat is Logan6. Its name is from the Hocking River, the origins of which are disputed but is said to be a Delaware Indian word meaning "bottle river".

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,097 km² (424 mi²). 1,095 km² (423 mi²) of it is land and 2 km² (1 mi²) of it (0.20%) is water.Adjacent counties

Demographics
As of the census² of 2000, there were 28,241 people, 10,843 households, and 7,828 families residing in the county. The population density was 26/km² (67/mi²). There were 12,141 housing units at an average density of 11/km² (29/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 97.54% White, 0.92% Black or African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.08% from other races, and 1.09% from two or more races. 0.44% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.There were 10,843 households out of which 33.50% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.30% were married couples living together, 9.50% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.80% were non-families. 23.70% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.00% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 2.98.
In the county, the population was spread out with 25.50% under the age of 18, 8.10% from 18 to 24, 28.30% from 25 to 44, 25.00% from 45 to 64, and 13.10% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 99.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.90 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $34,261, and the median income for a family was $40,888. Males had a median income of $31,951 versus $24,123 for females. The per capita income for the county was $16,095. About 10.30% of families and 13.50% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.80% of those under age 18 and 14.50% of those age 65 or over.
