Hokuto (北杜市;-shi) is a city located in Yamanashi, Japan.
As of November 1, 2004 the city has an estimated population of 44,080 with a population density of 77 persons per km². The total area is 569.75 km².
The city was founded on November 1, 2004 from the merger of seven towns and villages, all from Kitakoma District. The city also merged with Kobuchisawa (also from Kitakoma District) on March 15, 2006.
After March 15, 2006, the city now have an estimated population of 50,207 with a population density of 83 persons per square kilometer. The total area is now 602.89 km², becoming the largest city in Yamanashi Prefecture.(Using the 2004 population calculations)
